Top Story – Three different genres this weekend, Tollywood slump!
There is no doubt that Tollywood business is in the slump. With fewer
big ticket films released so far, and only one of them making it to the
heavy collections at Box Office, the trade analysts wait to see if the
rest of the year sails smoothly in terms of commercials.
While Thoofan, Bhai, Ramayya Vastavayya and Satya 2 proved to be total duds, the only film that shone like a lone warrior so far was Pawan Kalyan’s Attarintiki Daredi. Breaking all the past records set by films like Magadheera and Dookudu, AD managed to not only gross the highest collections, but also become the only film so far in the year to have made it to the super hit league. This despite the film suffering piracy before releasing.
This weekend will interestingly see three films of totally different
genres release – D K Bose, a romantic comedy, Paisa, an action drama and
Varna, a fantasy flick. While these films have been promoted well in
their own ways, it remains to be seen if any or all of them make an
impact at Box Office.
D K Bose will see rising hero Sundeep Kishan coming back with an entertaining comedy. The film’s music is already a hit, topping the charts. On the other hand, Krishna Vamsi’s Paisa starring Nani was delayed time and again, only to release tomorrow. The movie is said to be an action drama. Varna, on the contrary, is a Tamil – Telugu bilingual directed by Selvaraghavan and is supposed to be a fantasy flick. The movie that stars Arya and Anushka caught enough attention and curiosity with its vivid first look posters.
The only other big ticket flick awaited towards the end of the year is Ram Charan Tej’s Yevadu, directed by Vamsi Paidipally. The film starring Ram Charan, Shruti Hassan and Amy Jackson has been perpetually delayed from time to time by the maker Dil Raju, all thanks to the political instability and the impact of the same affecting the Mega clan. This was evidently felt at the time of Thoofan being released earlier this year. Ram Charan will badly want a turn around of things, given his constant misfire with films lately.
As they say, it is business at the end of the day. Let the best film earn!!
