Drishyam Breaks Another Record!
It almost looks like there is no end to this masterpiece of a
film created by Jeethu Joseph, as it keeps breaking record after record –
now it has become the single most popular movie in Malayalam film
history when it comes to DVD and VCD sales as well!
The movie released its authentic DVD last Friday on May 9th and the shop owners have said they were out of stock with the prints by that very evening! This was largely due to the huge amounts of pre ordering of the movie’s original DVD and Bluray copies made by ardent fans in the weeks and months before.
Drishyam also holds the record for being the most commercially successful movie in Mollywood history and also has claimed its rightful place as the biggest Malayalam hit internationally. In fact, in the UAE, the brilliant flick matched the record of the Hollywood epic Titanic by being the only other movie to run for a 100 straight days there. The theatre owners there reported that the audiences sometimes also included non Malayalis – Tamil, Telugu and Kannada viewers.
The plot of the film revolves around one man and his family, who when faced with a dangerous situation which comes knocking unexpectedly in to their peaceful lives, have to depend on their wits and each other to get through the ordeal.
The nail biting suspense thriller stars Mohanlal and Meena in the lead while Kalabhavan Shajon plays a convincing baddie along with Siddique and Asha Sharath who play the other pivotal roles. Meena won the State Award for the Best Supporting Actress for her performance while Jeethu Joseph too won in the Best Script category. The film itself bagged the Most Popular Film award -no surprises there…
The motion picture has also got other industries in the south fighting for the remake rights with big names already set to play the leads. The Kannada adaptation, which releases at the end of this month, has Crazy star Ravichandran and Navya Nair in the lead roles.
