Kollywood welcomes, Mollywood rejects Dulquer!

Bi lingual movies are always interesting as they show very clearly what succeeds in the respective culture of each language – highlighting the diversity and commonalities. The recent Dulquer Salman flick with a unique premise and co starring the lovely Nazriya Nazim, released in both Malayalam and Tamil simultaneously, with slight variations and different titles.
Dulquer-Kollywood
The Tamil version, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, has been a runaway hit and just declared a multiplex success, while the Malayalam version, Samsaaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram, has failed to make a mark at the box office! It is fascinating how the same plot, same screenplay and same actors can be a success someplace and a failure elsewhere – especially, then the two places in question are neighboring states!

But it seems the young actor’s debut in Kollywood has been met with a remarkably warm reception while his recent flicks in Mollywood have had lukewarm responses from the audience. One has to wonder if this in some way points to the reasons behind the prevalent trend of migration of acting talent from Mollywood to other industries.
Maybe apart from the bigger budgets and more glamour quotient involved, our neighbors are more accepting of new things… or are we reading too much in to what could easily be a display of different sensibilities with regard to one particular project?
Either way, Dulquer has at least one hit on his hands, and maybe he’s hoping the good fortune might come in play with his much anticipated movies in Mollywood – Bangalore Days and Njaan coming up.
The youngster sure doesn’t have an ounce of quit in him and like his father, seems committed to improving himself and honing his skills the right way with diverse films.
