10. Kareena Kapoor
The HEROINE had four duds last year. This year she made sure she’ll do better and gave only two duds this year – Satyagaraha and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. Both the roles were homogenous in a way. She played a hard-bitten lady wearing kurtas in both the films. The output was too ordinary to get any appreciation. If she continues to be ‘ Halkat’ in choosing the scripts, her ‘jawaani’ will definitely pass before she realizes.
9. Sonam Kapoor
She worked with some best directors, different genres, big production houses, but remained the average actor. With Raanjhanaa, she suddenly became a ‘Jhakaas’ actor playing a very complex role of a small-town girl Zoya, whose ideologies change after she does her graduation in the city. The character was hated by the small town majnus in the theatres for betraying ‘Kundan’. Bingo! That’s the victory of an actor, when the viewer forms a fondness or hatred towards a character.
8. Shruti Hassan
She was just an ordinary actor, until D-Day happened. Suraiya, a Pakistani prostitute with unimpeachable eyes, silence and scar that spoke volumes about the painful life she had and how she longed for love. Shruti enacted that with perfection. The tone she speaks with, and the way she has the conversations with Rudra (played by Arjun Rampal) are moving. In a song, when she is ruthlessly killed, you are left with moist eyes, a disturbing silence and an invisible scar in your heart.
7. Parineeti Chopra
She doesn’t mind not having a Kingfisher model figure, but she is happy looking like a girl next door. Parineeti played Gayatri in Shuddh Desi Romance, an independent woman with a fickle mind, who cannot handle her relationships well. She doesn’t mind doing a live-in, but runs away from life-long commitment. Parineeti plays the clarity-less character very convincingly. The bindaas attitude of Gayatri impressed the audience.

Shraddha Kapoor played Aarohi in Aashiqui-2, a small-time singer who later becomes a singing sensation, but never lets her love take the backseat amidst the popularity, awards and rewards. Aarohi is that ideal dream girl of any man, who will make life a paradise to live in.
5. Konkona Sen Sharma
Give her a black saree and a long plait. That’s all she needs to scare the hell out of you! She played the witch in ‘Ek Thi Daayan’, who comes in the disguise of a step-mother to two kids. She uses her hazel eyes with a thick ‘kaajal’ and talks in a peculiar way, which is enough to create an unknown fright. In the movie, Konkona generated such trepidation that when you go out on the street, you secretly check if there is any lady in black with a long plait. And, if she seems approaching you, you just whizz back to your home in fear.

It is very difficult to match up to Irrfan Khan’s acting skills, but the debutant Nimrat Kaur does it through Ila in The Lunchbox. Ila is a home-maker and neglected wife, who dreams to get her love acknowledged with the tasty meal she prepares for the husband. There is emptiness in her. Her world gets doomed much more when she finds that her husband is having an affair. In the busy metros, you will find one Ila in your apartments or your colony who is a perfect home-maker but never valued by the husband. Ila represented all those women suffering in silence, devoid of care and concern.
3. Huma Qureshi
Zoya Rehman , A RAW agent in D-Day is on a mission to kidnap Mr.D, while her relationship with her loved one is on the rocks. Huma played this very intense role, where she was sandwiched between her personal problem and the patriotism. A situation comes when Zoya has to seduce a man as part of the mission, and she cries her heart out with guilt. That scene defines the enormous understanding she has about the character. Also, in SHORTS, she plays an orphan who was abused by her cousin for 20 years. One fine day, she splashes the boiling oil on him, and thrashes him venting out all the anger and pain that piled on. The outburst she exhibits is outstanding.

Pakhi, the pampered zamindaar daughter is head over heels in love with Varun. Draped beautifully in a royal Bengali saree, she comes and asks Varun, why he has been ignoring from the last few days.
