Bollywood heroes to walk the ramp for Shabana Azmi
Veteran social activist and actress Shabana Azmi plans to bring the top celebs of Bollywood to walk the ramp for her NGO, Mijwan Welfare Society (MWS). The cause by Shabana, is based on the theme, “the man cares for the woman”.
Going by the very poem written by her father Kaifi Azmi called ‘Aurat’, Shabana wants to portray the stand men take for women in the country. The five generations of actors, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Farhan Akhtar, Ranbir Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra – all will walk the ramp signifying the five eras of men in support of women.
Speaking to IANS, Shabana Azmi shared her thoughts – “‘The man cars for the woman’ is the message we wish to convey. This is an idea whose time has come. There is much greater awareness today that for a healthy society, male participation in women empowerment is the need of the hour” she said.
“What is unique about the event is that iconic male stars from different generations, whom we are referring to as ‘men of style’ will be walking the ramp for the empowerment of women in rural India” she added.
Shabana’s NGO aims at girlchild and women empowerment, which is jolintly run by her godchild Namrata Goyal. The event is scheduled to be held on April 1 at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai.
Shabana feels thankful to her peers in the industry who have agreed to come forward for the cause. She appreciated the fact that despite their grueling film schedules, some of them have actually planned to come straight from their shooting to walk the ramp.
