Legendary actress Nanda passes away

Veteran actress known for her versatility with acting, Nanda passed away today at her Versova residence in Mumbai because of a heart attack. She was 75. The last rites of the demised celebrity will be performed by the family later today in Mumbai.
Nanda, known for her adept with emotional and romantic roles, first shot to fame in Hindi Film Industry as a child artiste. Losing her father very early, Nanda became both the financial and emotional support to her family by venturing into films. Nanda made her acting debut in 1956 with her uncle and director V Shantaram’s ‘Toofan Aur Diya’. Her biggest pairing was with actor Shashi kapoor, with whom she had acted in close to 8 films. Their all time hit and memorable film remains to be “Jab Jab Phool Khile’.



Nanda was noted for her amazing style of dramatic acting. She was very close to actress Waheeda Rehman at a personal level and the two ladies have alsoe worked together in films like Kaala Bazaar. Nanda got engaged to director Manmohan Desai in 1992 when nearing the middle age. But the unfortunate sudden demise of Desai following his falling off a terrace from his rented apartment left Nanda a severe blow, post which the actress never married.
Chitramala pays tribute to this ever talented heroine with finesse for acting. Nanda’s films always carried an element of dominance totally unique to her as a protagonist. She will always be a role model to the younger generations of acting talent for her stand out performances in the films.
