Celebs attend late actress Nanda’s funeral

The entire film fraternity of Bollywood gathered to mourn the passing of legendary actress Nanda, when the last rites were performed in Mumbai on 25th of March. The actress who touched hearts both personally and professionally, made many friends among her peers, some of the friendships that went on to become life long.


75 year old actress, known for her intense performances in dramatic roles, passed away at her residence in Versova following a heart attack. Known for some remarkable roles in films like Hum Dono and Ittefaq, Nanda was mostly paired with actor Shashi Kapoor as the couple created a definitive on screen magic. The duo went on to work in 8 films together.

Many yesteryear film personalities like Salim Khan, Shashikala and Tabassum were there to grieve the loss. Bollywood is struck with despair over the passing of such a veteran. The funeral also saw some old film technicians who came to pay their last respects.

Nanda, who was engaged to film maker Manmohan Desai briefly, could not succeed in culminating the same into marriage as Desai suddenly passed away, falling from his apartment in Mumbai. The emotional shock left the middle aged actress in great grief, post which Nanda never married.
Nanda was particularly close to actresses Waheeda Rehman and Helen, with whom she shared a great bonding despite the superficial star status that was projected by the masses and the media. The friendship between these ladies blossomed into a life long one, setting a unique example to the peers.
