Jab we Met
‘By God’, this movie was Kareena’s best performance who played a carefree garrulous girl ‘Geet’. Shahid played a diametrically opposite character who is serious and kept to himself. This heterogeneous mixture ended up in creating some chucklesome moments. In the second half the role reversal takes place keeping the diversity between the two characters alive and continuing the fun. The train sequence and the scene where she starts abusing her ex on the phone were the biggest highlights. ‘By God’, a flawless rom-com.
Shuddh Desi Romance
This is the new age romantic comedy which dealt with the athi-random flickering minds of today’s youngsters in relationships. Jaideep Sahni’s writing and Maneesh Sharma’s execution made it a totally enjoyable watch along with natural performances by Siushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vani Kapoor. The commitment phobia persists throughout the movie leading to some humorous conversations.
Jaane Tu Ya jaane Na
The movie was a sweet and simple love tale of two best buddies – Jai and Aditi. Abbas Tyrewala’s execution of a beaten to death story was new. Keeping the humour intact in every frame, he could tell the story of Jai and Aditi impressively. Jai and Aditi have their respective checklists for the kind of partners they wanted and end up in realizing that they are made for each other. The platonic love sprinkled with neat humour and soulful music by A.R.Rahman made it a very cute rom-com.
Cheeni Kum
An unusual love story between a 64yr man and a 34 yr woman! The pair is no different. There is fun, there is possessiveness, and there are petty fights too. The chemistry between Sr.Bacchan and Tabu makes it much more amusing. Zohra Sehgal, as the mother of Amitabh is adorable. Paresh Rawal played Tabu’s father and his confrontation with the prospective son-in-law who is elder to him was hilarious. Balki’s writing is impeccable.
Hum Tum
The Bollywood adaption of ‘When Harry Met Sally’ starred Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee as the leads. Exploring the equation between the Mars men and the Venus women, HUM TUM is a classy rom-com with ample humour. The numerous encounters between Karan and Rhea were absorbing and the funny cartoons having HUM and TUM made it even more entertaining. This also marked the beginning of Saif’s successful solo films.
Ishq
One of the funniest movies of Bollywood, Ishq had the best ensemble cast to tickle your funny bone. Ishq was a typical Indra Kumar’s execution but the comic sequences were well taken. There are plenty of waggish scenes like Aamir Khan crossing cable running over two buildings and the slap-stick comedy at the statue shop. The songs by Anu Malik went hand-in-hand with the movie’s comic feel.
Pyaar Ka Punchnama
This was a hilarious film with three contemporary love stories set in Mumbai. Majorly concentrating on men being a victim of a certain section of women who are over bossy and disloyal. Directed by Luv Ranjan, the movie ends with all the three guys ending up being single again. Karthik Tiwari’s frustration scene went viral on the internet, and Divyendu Sharma as ‘Liquid’ was also memorable.
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa
The movie captured the innocence in an unrequited love. Carrying a humorous touch on the top layer with an underlying emotion, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Haan remains as one of the best movies of SRK. All the means Rahul takes to impress his girl had a funny side, which every youngster can relate to.
